I do hope that everyone reading this takes advantage of the many farmer’s markets and fresh vegetable stands that bring so much healthy goodness to our communities. If you haven’t, please go this weekend to one of Lexington’s farmer’s markets.

When my son was young, we would plan our Saturdays with a long walk to the Vine Street farmer’s market. (Katie would always give him an apple and share a cute story).

That was 20 years ago, but the excitement and anticipation of the first tomato, the first peach, the first okra, the first fall crops is still there.

It is a privilege to be able to get to know the farmers, know when vegetables and fruits are getting ready to come in season, share a recipe and a laugh. It will always brighten your day and put a healthy glow on your face.

Selma’s Catering and Events shops at the local farmer’s market several times a week. We’re Kentucky Proud and use as many local ingredients and produce in our menus.
